ECDIS Sync Errors: Quick Troubleshooting Guide
A practical guide to resolving ECDIS network synchronization errors, offering step-by-step troubleshooting methods and manual chart loading techniques for maritime professionals.
Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems (ECDIS) can encounter synchronization errors that disrupt the chart loading processes.
When experiencing an "Access Denied: Synchronisation Error", navigators have several troubleshooting steps to resolve connectivity issues.
Understanding ECDIS Synchronization Challenges
During chart loading, ECDIS attempts to automatically synchronize chart data across multiple networked units.
If the ECDIS cannot communicate with the other ECDIS on the network, it will show the following error message :
“Access denied : Synchronisation Error : Cannot connect to peer 192.168.31.xxx”
Typical Network Configuration
- ECDIS 1: 192.168.31.1
- ECDIS 2: 192.168.31.2
- ECDIS 3: 192.168.31.3
- Chart Radar 1: 192.168.31.31
- Chart Radar 2: 192.168.31.32
Troubleshooting Steps
- Verify all equipment is powered on
- Check Network Cables
- Check Network Cable Connections
Temporary Resolution: Manual Chart Loading
If synchronization errors persist, temporarily disable group synchronization:
- Select "CHART" in top menu bar
- Select "SYSTEM" in left menu bar
- Access "SYNC CONFIG"
- Move all units to "Ungrouped Section"
- Load charts individually on each ECDIS
